Crescent Heights engaged Cyclone Energy Group to assist in the design, performance optimization, systems testing and LEED Certification of Chicago’s tallest rental residence, NEMA Chicago. The 76 story tower was designed by world-renowned architect, Rafael Viñoly, internationally known for creating skyline landmarks. Cyclone’s team helped the owner craft a path to LEED Silver and has guided the design and construction teams throughout the five year project. Supporting sustainability efforts was the energy modeling work performed by Cyclone’s Building Analysts. Cyclone created a simulation model of the project in concept and provided feedback to the designers on glass, insulation, HVAC system design and lighting systems. Energy modeling was also used to support the building permit, sustainable design ordinance policy and LEED efforts. Crescent Heights and the the residents at day one and enlisted Cyclone’s commissioning team to test all building systems. While many projects only sample residential systems, Cyclone’s team tirelessly tested all common area systems as well as all 800 residences. The operating team of NEMA wanted to ensure the performance of building HVAC, lighting and plumbing systems lived up to the standard they were intended to.
